Gone are the days of pulling out your eyelashes from using a curler! I personally have always viewed eyelash curlers as some sort of medieval torture device. I have pinched myself one too many times. When I heard about the Lash Lift and Lash Tint services, I was blown away. I could get the beautiful curled lashes of my dreams without having to face my fears.
My eyelashes are naturally dark, so on my personal before and afters (see above), you don’t notice the tinting service as much. However on Casey (first picture) because of her blonde hair, the tint makes a huge difference in the appearance of her eyelashes.

The thing that stood out to me most when I received this service was how much faster it made by morning routine. I didn’t have to fuss with the curler at all. There was even days that I went out without putting on any eye make up and still felt put together. I also loved that even though I got a lash service, they were still my eyelashes. It made it so I had the least amount of maintenance possible which is also my goal. Finally, my favorite moment was when I was able to put on mascara after the first 24 hours. My lashes were truly the lashes of my dreams.

Our new space has been fun to update and we have taken the opportunity to improve it for your enjoyment. I have been working at Ashka Salon Spa for 5 years now. It is super impressive to me how the owners are constantly investing back into the salon. Between updating paint colors, new shampoo bowls, or even just new computers to keep things running smoothly, Lisa and Steve consistently are looking for the best. I have not worked at another place where the owners care that much about the quality of the environment their employees are working in. Recently, they have put these efforts towards new spa renovations! When it was all said and done, the spa looked completely new. The whole team was extremely pleased with the updates. Ashka Salon Spa was closed for spa appointments for a weekend while the owners, Steve and Lisa, and manager Jozie along with her husband Jay worked like crazy to revamp our spa rooms. They redid counter tops and updated the paint. A beautiful backsplash was put in the pedicure room which really tied everything together. In the massage rooms, there was new paint, and some new shelves added to help open up the rooms. New mirrors make it easier for guests to examine their skin after a facial with one of our incredible estheticians.

All in all, I really think that our spa is now looking “Pinterest worthy”. Al of the details that went into perfecting these spa renovations really came together nicely. I am so appreciative to work for employers who care what our work environment is like.

The epitome of my esthetic lately has to become to be as “beachy” as possible. I love having a warm summer glow to my skin, minimal makeup, and tousled hair. I don’t know what it is about it, but I just can not get enough of that vibe. I have been craving for Aveda to come out with some sort of sea salt spray for the longest time and they finally did. Introducing Aveda’s Texture Tonic! I have been loving this product. And it is the perfect finishing touch to my beach babe style that I am constantly trying to achieve.
What is Aveda’s Texture Tonic?
Texture Tonic is Aveda’s version of a sea salt spray with a twist. Sea Salt spray is meant to give your hair more texture and add an addition wave or curl to your hair. Traditional sea salt sprays can be very drying to your hair. The salt tends to suck up any moisture it can. Aveda wanted to make a spray that gives you the effect of sea salt spray, without the harsh drying effect. That is when they decided to add sugar to their formula!
Cane sugar and salt work in harmony to help create naturally tousled texture and flexible hold, while leaving the hair touchable and infused with natural shine for an effortlessly “undone” look. The ingredient babassu helps create effortless texture.
Texture Tonic can be used on dry or wet hair. My personal favorite ways to apply it is after showering, I let my hair air dry about 50%. I then flip upside down and spray about 3-4 sprays of texture tonic. Scrunching it into my hair, I instantly see my waves begin to bounce up. Another way I like to use it is after my hair is dry and curled, I will spray in a couple spritz to make it “perfectly messy”.

Every year when Earth Day comes around, the topic of how we can keep our planet healthy becomes more prominent. As Earth Day 2018 approached, I wanted to do some more research on how Aveda helps the environment every day. There are so many reasons why I love Aveda. I think the biggest reason of all is their commitment to environmental responsibility. Aveda is environmentally conscious is a multitude of ways. One of them is through their responsible packaging.

Aveda is the first beauty company to use 100% post-consumer recycled PET packaging. As of right now, approximately 85% of all of their products have this type of packaging.
With every package we develop, we’re mindful of our environmental footprint and work to minimize our packaging and maximize our use of recyclable and post consumer recycled materials.
Now if it is not possible for Aveda to use 100% PCR material for their packaging, they will use a combination of post-consumer recycled material and bioplastic. Both the Dry Remedy Moisturizing Conditioner and Masque tubes are made out of this combination. The bioplastic that Aveda chooses to use is 96% derived from plants and 4% from petrochemicals.
What Does Earth Day 2018 Mean to Me?
Earth Day is such an understated holiday. I think it should be considered a much bigger deal than it is. Keeping the Earth as healthy as we can, will only help us in the future. Some of my favorite memories are times that I was able to immerse myself in nature. I am mortified by the idea of there ever being a time that I couldn’t lay out on the beach, or walk through the nature trails by my house. I truly believe that as humans, we have a responsibility to do our best to keep our planet in the best shape possible.
Aveda hair color has been my passion pretty much since I started in Cosmetology school. I love having the ability to completely customize my client’s hair color formulas. No two heads are alike. Even when two clients have a similar hair color, their formulas can vary drastically. Hair color formulations are based not only off of what color their hair is starting at and what color you want them to be, but also their hair texture, density, and type. Aveda has 3 different hair color lines: Full Spectrum Permanent, Full Spectrum Demi+, and Full Spectrum Deep. I recently have been able to embark on the journey of teaching hair color classes with the Full Spectrum Deep line.

What is Aveda Full Spectrum Deep?
Aveda Full Spectrum Deep is a fade-resistant formula that provides a balance of lift and deposit for a naturally cool result and infuses the hair with incredible, healthy looking shine. It is also extremely conditioning with a signature blend of plant oils—castor, certified organic sunflower and jojoba. It allows for a more pleasant processing with an aroma of certified organic lavender.
I tend to grab for Full Spectrum Deep when my clients have resistant greys or dark natural color and want to be lighter. However, more recently I have been playing with using Deep when I am blonding. I have been amazed with the results. I also love using Deep for lowlights in my blondes because it seems to have a little more lasting power on blonde porous hair.

If you have spent anytime on Pinterest or Instagram in the past year, I’m sure you have see the grey/silver hair trend that is going around. Some people find it funny that people are paying to get grey hair when if you wait long enough, you’ll inevitably get it. Other people find it absolutely stunning. No matter where you fall on that spectrum, people are definitely asking for grey hair color.
Getting Grey Hair Color – The Process

Unfortunately it is not as easy as simply squeezing grey out of a color tube and putting it on someones head. In order to achieve a true silver/grey hair color you have to get the hair to be essentially white blonde first. Either through highlights or bleaching the hair out, the hair has to be lifted as light as possible. After you have achieved that, your stylist then will have to apply a gloss over top of it to give it that “grey” hue.
I think the hardest part about artificial grey hair is that once you have lifted the hair light enough, it becomes porous and the “grey” doesn’t want to stay in the hair well. This is the same struggle that all fashion colors have. In order to keep that grey/silver hue, you have to be very diligent with your at home hair care. Even then, it sometimes will still just fade quick due to the nature of the color.
Blending Grey Hair with Artificial Grey Hair Color
I’ve had a few clients come in and ask me questions about growing out their grey hair. They want to know if we can just dye their hair grey so that it is easier to grow out. In this case, I suggest doing highlights of really light white, silvery blonde, and lowlights of a dark greyish tone. This over all will blend together to create a cool toned base that sometimes makes the growing out process easier. However at the end of the day, it is impossible to identically replicate someone’s natural grey hair. It helps to blend it, but you still have to go through the long process of growing it out.

Grey hair is something that everyone and every salon eventually has to deal with. And this is no different at Ashka Salon Spa. Some people remember finding their first grey hair at the yong age of 16. Other people are in their early 40s and barely have any at all. There really doesn’t seem to be a pattern to when you get grey or even how much. It isn’t dependent on specific thing as far as I can tell. Caucasians tend to go grey first. Scientists aren’t exactly sure why, but then Asians and finally African Americans.
The 50-50-50 rule
“Fifty percent of the population has about 50% gray hair at age 50,” says Dr. Anthony Oro, professor of dermatology at Stanford University. Normal aging is the primary cause of grey hair
Diet is key To colored locks It has been proven than a diet filled with all of your vital vitamins and nutrients leads to stronger, healthier hair. It has also been found that having a healthy diet actually helps keep the grey hair at bay longer.
Stress never helps While stress hasn’t been proven to be directly linked to grey hair growth, it has been seen they it cause you to lose hair faster. The more quickly you lose hair, the more of a chance you have that it could grow back grey.
Pluck the greys away There is a myth going around that if you pluck a grey hair, 2 will come back. However this is completely inaccurate. A Hair follicle is only able to grow one hair strand. No matter how many times you pluck a stubborn grey, it will only grow back as one. However, I still don’t recommend plucking them for your scalps sake.
