This COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Plan is based on suggestions and requirements provided by OSHA.gov, and Michigan’s Safe Start Guidelines by LARA, previous Executive Orders and the current Michigan Department of Health and Human Service (MDHHS) Epidemic Orders and directives, as well as the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

All styling stations, shampoo bowls, pedicure/manicure tables and waiting area chairs have been permanently or temporarily changed or physically barricaded to accommodate 6 feet of distance between workers and other workers, as well as guests and other workers or guests. A physical barrier is being placed to prevent a line-up at the front desk for checking in or out and signs advising these guidelines have been placed at the entrances.

Worker’s hours have been condensed to fewer days per week and workers have been spread out more evenly across working days to lessen the amount of people in the building at one time and also making it easier to social distance where possible.

Precautions + Protocols for the Safety of Workers (and Customers):

– Workers must stay home if they are sick

– If workers are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, they need to get a COVID test and may return to work after receiving a negative result

– Each day, a Daily Self Screening Evaluation + Checklist will be provided at the front desk, and upon entry, workers must fill out the questionnaire covering symptoms and sign in if they can answer no to all 4 questions

– If workers answer yes to any of the 4 questions, they need to report to a manager and leave work to get a COVID test

– We recommend frequent and thorough hand washing, throughout the day with proper hand washing techniques provided by the CDC, which at minimum includes washing for 20 seconds, using soap and warm water

– In addition hand sanitizer, soap and water mixture for pre-cleaning, as well as 70% Isopropyl Alcohol for disinfecting will be available throughout the salon and work stations

– 70% Isopropyl Alcohol will be used throughout the day to sanitize high-touch areas such as light switches, door handles, faucets and pens

– Respiratory etiquette will be required at all times

– A Daily Sanitation Log will be kept at the front desk for logging the worker who performed the sanitation in each area (such as front door handles), as well as the times of day the designated high-touch areas were disinfected

– Food, drinks and bags/containers left in the break room fridge the night before will be discarded each morning so that the fridge can be disinfected

– It is recommended that all workers follow current CDC guidelines, including gathering size and event attendance

The following products will be most widely used for cleaning and disinfection:

Multi-Cide – a hospital grade, EPA approved broad-spectrum disinfectant for surfaces and cosmetology tools, combs and esthetics and manicurist implements

70% Isopropyl Alcohol – For disinfecting

Soap + Water Mixture – For pre-cleaning work stations

Precautions + Protocols for the Safety of Customers (and Workers):

– The business will maintain accurate records for each appointment, including date and time of service, name of client and phone number

– Hand sanitizer will be prominently placed throughout the business

– An outdoor waiting area has been created and indoor waiting areas have been moved and separated to allow guests waiting to check in, waiting for their service or waiting to checkout to be spaced 6 feet apart

– Coffee and water have been removed and the drinking faucets on the fountains have been blocked off

– Cash will no longer be accepted for services or product and service provider gratuity will no longer be processed through the front desk

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) continues to define “exposure” or “close contact” as spending 15 minutes or more within 6 feet.

Being in the same building, passing someone in a grocery store or at a gas station or being exposed to someone who says they were exposed, but is not confirmed positive, does NOT constitute close contact.

The following protocols apply to all workers, including those who are fully vaccinated:

In the Event a Worker Has a Suspected Case of COVID-19:

– Ashka Salon is an equal-opportunity employer and will not discharge, discipline, or otherwise retaliate against employees who stay home or who leave work when they are at particular risk of infecting others with COVID-19 (Executive Order 2020-36)

– If a worker does not or cannot pass the Daily Self Screening Checklist due to symptoms listed, the worker should immediately leave the business and go to a testing site for a COVID-19 test and show proof of the results to their manager as soon as they are available

In the Event a Worker Has Been Identified with a Confirmed Case of COVID-19:

– Within 24 hours, notify any co-workers or customers who have had close contact (CDC definition) to the worker with a confirmed case of COVID-19 as reported by the confirmed worker

– On the day the worker notifies the business of their positive COVID-19 test result, the managers will work with customers and employees to finish appointments according to chemical and professional protocols while allowing any affected workers to leave and get tested

– The business will be sanitized before it is reopened, which may include being temporarily closed for an additional business day

– The identity of the worker will be protected to the extent possible by owners and managers

– We will cooperate with any contact tracing efforts from the local or state health department

Employees with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 may only return to the workplace after they are no longer infectious according to the latest guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or can produce a negative COVID-19 test result.

In the Event a Customer Claims to Have a Confirmed Case of COVID-19:

– The customer will be directed to the health department

– Health and medical information must be protected and kept private, but the business will follow any directions given by the health department

– Within 24 hours, notify any employees, contractors or other customers who may have had close contact (as defined by the CDC) to the customer with a confirmed case of COVID-19

– The business will take additional cleaning or sanitation measures as it is appropriate based on the timing, duration and appointment details and history of the customer
