If you have curly hair, then curly hair styling is the most frustrating part of your morning. Some strands are ringlets. Some hair is straight. Sometimes it is frizzy. Other days it is perfect. How do you get a more consistent outcome with curly hair styling? With any length curly hair styling can be simple. Here are a few of our favorite curly hair styling tips:
Curly Hair Styling – Use The Right Shampoo
The right shampoo for YOU may not be the same as your curly haired friend. Try AVEDA’s Be Curly Shampoo and Conditioner. It contains wheat protein to help soften and “shrink” up hair to remain curly. You may not need to wash it every day. AVEDA has a new addition called Be Curly Co-Wash. This product doesn’t suds up and is intended to clean your scalp without stripping your hair. This products is sulfate free. Depending on your scalp, you can also just wet your hair down in the morning and skip the shampoo some times!
Comb Your Hair Out When It Is Wet
DO NOT brush or comb your curls when they are dry. It will be fuzzy and can make curly hair styling a nightmare. Make sure you comb or brush quickly after your shower.
Apply Product For Curly Hair Styling
Moisture is your friend. Apply products when hair is wet. Try AVEDA Be Curly Style Prep to de-frizz and shine. Try AVEDA Confixor for hold. Use enough product to coat your hair starting at the ends of the back and moving toward the front and the roots. Some times a big problem when curly hair styling is not using enough product. Do NOT use a towel absorb the moisture. Instead try using a t-shirt or pillowcase. Do not “rub” your hair or create friction. Blot the drops of moisture out of your hair
Use A Diffusor To Dry Your Hair
Air dry for 10-15 minutes. It is important with curly hair styling that you keep the curls in their natural curl pattern. Strands that are less curly may need more product. Put the ends of your hair in the diffusor. Then walk the section of hair up to the roots. Hold in place for at least thirty seconds. Make sure those strands are all on the diffusor and not blowing or flying around. Blow dry your hair to around 80% dry. If some sections of your hair are straighter than other you can tough them up by quickly wrapping them around a curling iron.
Finish Your Curly Hair Styling
One of the most important things about curly hair styling is not to mess with it too much once diffused. It is easy to create frizz by scrunching too much or “playing” with your style. When hair is dry we recommend AVEDA’s Humectant to be lightly applied with your palms and finger tips. This adds shine and helps to keep curls separate and soft. It also smells amazing!
