I’ve never been a huge fan of awards shows, but something about the red carpet at the Osccars sucks me in every year. This year, the hair and makeup looks (and even the gowns) were generally understated and classic.

Loose, wavy and beachy hair has been very much in trend the past couple of years. While we still saw it on the carpet on Sunday, there were more classic updos and structured styles. I was absolutely loving Olivia Wilde’s romantic yet structred style.

I also loved Amy Adam’s hair. Another updo; this one very structured, elegant, and channeling her inner pin-up girl. I loved the vintage, classic feel – yet how it remained understated.

As far as makeup goes: nude lips galore! I love this look, but I loved seeing some bold lips out there. Margot Robbie’s lips absolutelty MADE her look. The beautiful plum color made her blue eyes pop and went perfectly with her rich chocolate brown hair. This look is a testament to just how much lip color can change an entire look.

It seems as though the classic smokey eye is on its way out, as well. For right now, anyway. The trend this year seemed to be thick top liner and nude lids. Again, Olivia Wilde nailed it with her cat-eye look.

Definitely some things to consider for 2014 prom and wedding season!
